The Shot
A small search panel over any app, one keystroke away. Type, open, gone. Pressing ⌥Space is called pulling a shot.
Press ⌥Space in any app and a small search panel appears in the middle of the screen. Type, and the top 50 results (the Ristretto) appear instantly, from all your disks, with the same search syntax as the main window.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| ↑ ↓ | Move through the results |
| ↩ | Open the selected result |
| ⌘↩ | Show it in Finder |
| ⌘O | Continue the search in the main window, with every result |
| esc | Close the panel |
You can also click a result, drag it anywhere, or clear the search with the ✕ button. The panel closes by itself when you click elsewhere. It’s also in the menu: File › Pull a Shot….
Change the shortcut
In Settings › General, click the Global shortcut box and press the keys you want. If macOS or another app already uses that combination, Espresso tells you. Under Shortcut opens, choose whether it shows The Shot or brings the main window to the front.
Always ready
The shortcut works while Espresso is open. To have it at hand all day, turn on Open at login and set When the last window closes to Keep Espresso open, both in Settings › General. A cup in the menu bar (Show icon in menu bar) is handy if you close every window.
